High Cotton House, c. 1878
282 Whitlock Avenue

Nestled between giant oaks, Georgia pines and magnificent magnolias, this beautiful High-style Victorian house is believed to have been built in the late 1870’s. The original four-room farmhouse has had many owners and has been added to over the years. Once part of the land owned by former Georgia Governor, Charles J. McDonald (1838-43), the property was sold to A. P. Rood in November of 1862. In 1928, Dr. Sam Rambo purchased the house and it belonged in the Rambo family until 1971. In 1986, it was purchased by Ernest & Gloria Olson, who did major renovation to the home. The current owners are Heidi & Ruben Green.
Many of the home’s original features still exist including many of the original windows and the wide-planked, heart of pine flooring on the second floor. A Union bayonet from the Civil War was unearthed in the dirt basement.
