The Hardage-Smith House, c. 1890
80 Polk Street
This charming Victorian cottage-style house was built on property that was originally part of the Archibald Howell Estate on Kennesaw Avenue. It was part of an 8-¾ acre tract owned by Dillard Young prior to the Civil War. In 1874, the property was purchased by William F Groves, the postmaster of Marietta. He built the house in 1890. The house was sold to M.C. Echols in 1919. The Echols family owned it until it was purchased at auction by the Summerours in 1932. Mrs. Summerour sold the property in 1938 to James M. Hardage. The Hardage’s daughter, Nell Hardage Sharpe purchased the home from the estate and lived there for 50 years. The current owners are Emelie & Whit Smith.
